How does this work without uploading my file?

Your browser can already decode and re-encode audio on its own. This page uses the Web Audio API to read the file, apply your edits and write the result — all inside the tab. There is no server involved, so nothing is sent anywhere, there is no queue, and it keeps working if your connection drops. You can check this yourself in your browser's network panel.

How do I trim and preview?

Drag the pink handles under the waveform to set the start and end, or drag across the waveform to select. Press Space or the play button to hear exactly what will be exported — fades, normalise and mono are applied live. Drag the small circles near the top to set fade lengths. Right-click the waveform (long-press on a phone, or use the Edit button) for Trim, Delete, Select all and more. Everything can be undone. Only the output sample rate and MP3 bitrate are not part of the preview.

Which format should I pick?

WAV is lossless and exports instantly, but files are large — roughly 10 MB per minute in stereo. MP3 is much smaller and good enough for almost everything; 192 kbps is a sensible default, and 320 kbps is close to transparent. Converting an MP3 to another MP3 always loses a little quality, because the original detail is already gone.

Why is there a length limit?

Audio is held in memory uncompressed while you work on it — about 21 MB per minute in stereo at 44.1 kHz. Phones in particular will close a tab that asks for too much, so the limit is 15 minutes and 200 MB. If you hit it, trim the file first and convert in parts.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no sign-up, no quota, no watermark and no ads. Vivace Music is a free sheet-music and music-education site; this tool exists because the browser can do the job and there is no reason to charge for it.
